the acclaimed French novel is finally adapted to the Hollywood screen (in the 90's).

the story traces the life of jean valjean, an 19-year-convict who finally gets out of jail. once he's out, he decides to be a "good" man. he changes his identity and becomes mayor of vigaud. he meets fantine, a prostitute. and promises her to take care of her daughter....unfortunately, a police officer is always on valjean's trace and will follow him everywhere...

the movie has a perfect cast for the story featuring Liam neeson as jean valjean, the heart-breaking thurman as fantine, Geoffrey rush as javert and the fantastic claire danes as cosette.

the scripts is very faithful to the novel and, even though it shortens it, the whole movie is in the mood of the book and that's very rare nowadays.

the music is fabulous and the landscapes and costumes are very well designed. it's a great movie, an epic of the heart ....!
